This Day in Central Florida History…
I heard a neat tidbit on Channel 13 news today during their ‘This Day in Central Florida History’ segment.
On July 31st, 1962 Wesley Snipes was born in Orlando, Florida.
After moving to the Bronx, his family came back and Snipes graduated from Jones High School. We all know what happened after that.
I remember when I was attending Colonial High School, our biggest ‘celebrity graduate’ was Delta Burke. I wonder what she’s up to these days?
Well after Desinging Women.. Delta Burke is now lanching her own plus size clothing line, or has already. It pains me to say I know what she might be doing. :(
So far as I know, the biggest thing to come out of Lake Brantley High School in recent years — despite his dropping out to wander the southeast — is still Matchbox Twenty lead man and now solo artist Rob Thomas.
And as to Delta Burke, well the IMDb lists her last project as 2003’s children’s film Good Boy!, wherein she played the voice of “Barbara Ann.”
I didn’t know that about Rob Thomas. I do believe Creed’s lead singer also graduated from a local school, although I’m wanting to say it was a private school?
I am pretty sure Scott Stapp graduated from Bishop Moore, the private Catholic high school. I do know that he attended chuch with his parents at the Calvary, that large church complex visible at the curve on I-4 between Fairbanks Avenue and Princeton Street.
Of course I should disclaim that this information is not first-hand, but something I heard on VH1.
Is Mike Harvey still in town and broadcasting or is his Super Gold website a leftover? He can not be found for comment.
I think Scott Stapp graduated from Lake Highland Prep. Yeah, I know… too much VH1.
