New Pirates Ride

tn_pirates222_1151106671.jpgWell this refurbished ride has been open nearly a month now and I finally took the opportunity to go see it over the weekend. I’ve been living in Central Florida since the late 80s (been in Florida since 78) and I’ve been to Magic Kingdom only slightly fewer times than the cast member who work in that park. So I’ve been on the POC ride more than a few times.

Pirates of the Caribbean was a ride I would frequent for three reasons when I was acting as a Disney host for out of town guests. 1. No lines 2. Cool que 3. You can sit for awhile and rest your aching feet.

NO MORE MY FRIENDS.

I found myself in line at parade time (a traditionally great time to get on a popular ride because the crowds thin to go off to the parade) and it was a 50 minute wait (that turned into 65+ minutes). I found myself saying this unbelievable phrase outloud…. they’re going to have to make this a fast pass attraction soon.

The improvements were subtle and yet just enough. I’m not a purist and I’m all for updating things and keeping them fresh and current. The movie soundtrack was playing in the que as well as various scenes in the ride. They added some AMAZING new audio animatronics for Jack (I was particularly impressed with his first scene). They got his mannerisms down to a T. Also the new Davy Jones intro is very cool and immensely clever.

So… you locals that have considered a view of this refurbed ride…. GO – definitely GO. But go after Labor Day.
