The Picture Show at Altamonte

OK, not really. But damned close. All this week, the Picture Show at Altamonte is charging 25 cents for admission. We just came back from seeing a good movie–The Aviator–but for 25 cents who cares? If you can actually afford to go to the movies, then it’s not such a disaster if you wind up seeing something bad.

The Picture Show is another attempt to re-open the 8-screen theater in the Renaissance Plaza near the Altamonte Mall. It was called “Altamonte 8” and the signs still say that in places, as well. They’re going to do second-run movies and some art house stuff, using extremely low ticket prices as bait. Regular admission will be $1.50 after 6pm with 75-cent matinees and 50-cent Tuesdays.

CORRECTION: The theater we went to was Altamonte 8. There are apparently TWO cut-rate movie theaters charging 25-cent admission this week! The Picture Show is in the plaza next to I-4, near Gold’s Gym.
