Yes, I’m a Grinch.

I am not in the holiday spirit.

You want to know why? Because Christmas decorations have been up since before Halloween. I could walk down the aisles of wherever in mid-October and see skeletons hanging across the aisle from Santa Claus. The second Halloween ended, every freaking store in this town put up a tree and started blaring Christmas music. Hideous holiday decorations went up in the parking lot outside my workplace. Santa’s already hefting kiddies onto his lap at the mall. It’s not even Thanksgiving yet, but if I hear “Winter Wonderland” one more time when I go to buy toothpaste, I’m going to start impaling people with candy canes. I can’t imagine how I’m going to feel by the time December 25th rolls around.

Come on, people. Push this sucker back anymore, and Christmas decorations are going to be up in July. This isn’t festive, it’s exhausting. It cheapens Christmas. The holiday season is something special. We don’t need to overkill it.

Bah, humbug, blah blah blah.

I’m looking forward to the Charlie Brown Christmas special on…ABC, is it? I don’t know. Charles M. Schulz was a smart guy.
